Cruise Description
Cruise on an iconic ship | Gdansk
Climb aboard a replica of an iconic galar-type river ship and experience an unforgettable cruise on the waters of the Motława River! These ships experienced their heyday in the 18th century – at that time they were one of the main means of transporting timber and goods in Poland. In the past, the crew of a galley consisted of 6 to 8 rafters, who were engaged in the river floating of their cargo. It is worth mentioning that rafting traditions have been included in the UNESCO Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. A cruise on our galley, therefore, is not only a way to spend your free time, but also to return to your roots and commune with tradition. History lovers will surely be delighted!
Cruise on the Motlawa River | Where do we leave from?
What is the itinerary of the tour? Our cruise on the Motlawa River begins at the Galar Marina, located right next to the Gdansk Shipyard. This place hides an amazing history, affecting not only the fate of our country, but also the entire European Union! It was the Gdansk Shipyard that was the center of the workers’ strike in 1980, which ended with the signing of the August Agreements. This event not only initiated the formation of free trade unions, but above all inspired many other European countries to fight for freedom and democracy.
Gdansk Cruise | Tour itinerary
Climb aboard the galara, sit back and enjoy the charms of the Old Town center, which is the first destination of our trip. From the boat you will be able to see, among other things:
- The grounds after the Teutonic castle,
- Long Wharf with water gates leading into the city,
- The famous wooden Crane from the 15th century,
- charming old townhouses and their new surroundings.
Continue your trip, admiring the other monuments and new developments of Olowianka and Granaries – two islands located in the very center of Gdansk. The first is located on the border of the Motława River and the Keel Canal. It was created as a result of the digging of the Canal in 1576. At that time it was called Szafarnia – today on Ołowianka we can find a street with this name. Granary Island, on the other hand, is a richer area of Gdansk, where we can admire exclusive yachts moored in the docks. Sailing along the Motlawa River on board a galley, we will also see a unique port crane (crane) – the largest in medieval Europe.
A cruise in Gdansk is a unique and unrepeatable opportunity to see up close specialized ships, historic buildings and the waterfront of the Port of Gdansk. The tour ends in the same place where it began – at the Galar Marina near the Gdansk Shipyard. If you need to get off a little closer to the Old Town of Gdansk, tell the Captain about it – for one sincere smile, you will surely come to an agreement.
