Marine Culture Center

Maritime Culture Center – The buildings of the Maritime Culture Center are thoroughly modern, which can be seen at first glance from the glass facade. Despite this, however, they strongly relate to the traditional buildings in this part of the old town. In the place left by the old granaries, ruined during the war, a boiler house was first built here, which was later converted into the offices of the National City Museum. At the beginning of the 21st century, the museum decided to demolish the adapted post-war edifices and build a modern Maritime Culture Center on the site. During the archaeological work preceding the construction of the center, thousands of objects related to the daily life of the city were found. The center has the character of a modern museum, pursuing educational goals. Here you can both visit an exhibition of boats from all over the world, and actively learn how to maneuver remote-controlled ships floating in a huge pool, or learn the secrets of working in the port.
